Trekking in the Footsteps of Ancient Civilization: Lelleg Route
About this experience
If you think that the resort town of Bodrum is famous only for its elegant houses, narrow streets, and the dark blue fires of its bays, then you are making a big mistake! I invite you to go trekking in the footsteps of the earliest inhabitants of Ancient Greece - the Lellegs, who lived here many centuries ago. You will cover 15 kilometers through pine forests and olive groves. Along the way, you will discover the ancient city of Pedas, Acropolis, and the ruins of rock tombs.
What to Expect
Meeting Ancient Civilizations
According to the great Homer, the first official mention of Bodrum in chronicles is associated with the ally Lellegs, who went to war with the Trojans. They, according to the world's first geographer Strabo, "earned a living by piracy". So who are these Lellegs? You will take a walk to get acquainted with the incredible history of Bodrum's surroundings and to encounter the heritage of the earliest inhabitants of ancient Greece.
Trekking in Mountainous Bodrum
The beginning of this story awaits us on the picturesque hills of Bodrum, amidst olive trees and coniferous forests. We will embark on the "Lelleg Route" hiking trail: its surroundings are densely overgrown, so without a guide, it is easy to lose your way. I will meet you in the village of Kazderesi (Konacik), and in total, we will cover 15 kilometers (about 4-5 hours of trekking), heading towards Gebe Klise (Torba). Along the way, we will encounter the constructions of the ancient city of Pedas, the Pregnant Church, ruins of rock boundaries and stone walls that have survived thanks to the unique fortification techniques that the Lellegs were famous for. Also, fragrant pine forests, a beautiful path that never sees the sun, ponds where you can spot animals watering, and an abandoned village, the sad history of which I will also definitely tell you about.
This trekking is suitable for people of any fitness level, even without climbing experience, and does not require special equipment.
