About this experience
For over 10 years, I have been introducing Rome's guests to the Vatican and have seen a great interest in the history of the formation and development of this state. That's why I decided to create a tour focusing on these periods. You will learn about the Christian policy of Emperor Constantine, the construction of the first basilicas in Rome, the signing of the treaty, and the circumstances leading to the creation of the state under Mussolini.
What to Expect
- You will visit the Vatican Museums, including the famous Sistine Chapel painted by Michelangelo, and the Hall of the Greek Cross, where porphyry sarcophagi from the time of Emperor Constantine are kept
- You will be at St. Peter's Square, designed by the famous architect Bernini
- In St. Peter's Basilica, I will show you iconic landmarks and the relics of the Roman Popes, canonized as saints
- Afterwards, we will descend to the Vatican Grottoes, where the foundation of the first Constantinian basilica was located, and where you can now see its foundation and columns, as well as pay homage to the apostle Peter's relics
You will learn about:
- Early Christianity in Rome
- Construction of one of the first Christian basilicas
- The period of decline and development of the Vatican
- The official formation of the Catholic state during Mussolini's rule
