About this experience
Lisbon's street art is not underground, but a dynamic environment that shapes the city's identity alongside its yellow trams and azulejos. On the tuk-tuk tour, we will visit selected street art masterpieces in central Lisbon and the hard-to-reach neighborhoods of Beato and Marvila, while discussing this phenomenon of urban culture along the way.
What to expect
Cream of street art in the center and outskirts of Lisbon
On the tuk-tuk, we will ride through the historical center and periphery of Lisbon, exploring the city from the perspective of street art. Starting from Luís de Camões Square, we will head to Beato, where you will see the works of the legendary Lisbon artist Bordalo II, who converses with society about environmental issues and pollution created by humans through beautiful installations made of waste. We will then proceed to Marvila, a quiet place with an impressive view of the Tagus River, where a street art festival takes place. Our main focus will be on Bordalo II's works from the Big Trash Animals series, Poseidon guarding the city's port, and other iconic graffiti in Lisbon.
The philosophy of Portuguese street art
Exploring the colorful streets, you will see how closely and organically street art is integrated into Lisbon's urban space. We will discuss the place of street art in contemporary Portuguese culture, touching on current topics from politics to ecology that Lisbon's graffiti address. Additionally, I will talk about the Crono project, which encourages artists to transform abandoned buildings into urban galleries and brings Lisbon closer to the title of the European capital of street art.
Who will enjoy the walk
For those who want to see the lively face of Lisbon, as well as underground and street art enthusiasts.
