What to expect
History and legends of Obidos
Obidos is a place filled with amazing stories. For many centuries, Portuguese kings presented it as a wedding gift to their beloved ones. You will learn about princesses, queens, and ordinary women who influenced the city's development. You will also hear the legend of the first King of Portugal conquering Obidos and understand why one of the doors leading to the fortress is called the 'door of betrayal' and the city's residents are called 'moles'.
A journey through time
Walking through the labyrinth of medieval alleys, you will visit the main square of the city and three ancient churches: Merciful, Saint Mary, and Saint Peter. Explore the royal palace-castle, which has now turned into a hotel for honeymooners, and taste cherry liqueur ginjinha in a chocolate cup. I will tell you how the city lived and lives, and what festivals and holidays are celebrated there.
