What to expect
History and legends of Obidos
Obidos is a place filled with amazing stories. For centuries, Portuguese kings presented it as a wedding gift to their beloved ones. You will learn about princesses, queens, and common women who influenced the city's development. You will also hear the legend of the first King of Portugal's conquest of Obidos and understand why one of the leading doors in the fortress is called the 'door of betrayal' and the city's residents are called 'moles'.
Journey through time
Strolling through the labyrinth of medieval streets, you will visit the main square of the town and three ancient churches: Mercy, Saint Mary, and Saint Peter. You will explore the royal palace-castle, which today has become a hotel for honeymooners, and taste the cherry liquor ginjinha in a chocolate cup. I will talk about the past and present life of the city and the festivals and holidays celebrated in it.
