About this experience
Welcome to the oldest capital of Scandinavia! Join me for a walk through 'my' Oslo, where we will visit the main street Karl Johans gate as well as quiet squares where tourists rarely set foot. We will talk about the city's history, the fates of people who were connected to Norway by chance or choice, and the four rulers who played a significant role in Oslo's history.
What to Expect
The tour is rightfully named 'The City of Four Kings'. Four kings played an important role in Oslo's history and development. I will answer all your questions about why Oslo is called the city of the tiger, the origin of the 'horse-tailed' hats worn by the royal guards, and much more!
We will start the tour at the tiger statue on the station square, walk up the central street Karl Johans gate, visit the main city church if it is open. Just a minute's walk away, in the churchyard, you will find an oasis of peace and tranquility. Continuing on, passing through the Kvadraturen district, we will reach the impregnable fortress of Akershus. From the fortress walls, you will have an excellent view of the city, the waterfront, and the fjord. With the help of old photographs and illustrations, I will show you how things have changed over the decades. From the fortress, we will return to Karl Johans gate and walk through the only place where you can simultaneously see the railway station at the beginning of the street and the royal palace at the end. We will also visit the city hall, known in our time as the venue for the Nobel Prize ceremony. The tour will end at the monument to the first Swedish-Norwegian king, Karl Johan.
My tours are guided photo walks. In addition to fascinating information about Oslo, you will receive great photos (included in the price).
