Amphawa is the most unusual city in Thailand. It is built on water, with canals instead of streets. Amphawa is the birthplace of two kings, Rama I and Rama II, and a favorite vacation spot for wealthy capital residents. We will explore the Thai Venice in detail, visit the Dragon temple, the floating Damnoen Saduak Market, and the Unfolding Umbrella Market where the market instantly folds up when the gong sounds to make way for the Samut Songkhram Express train.
What to Expect
Itinerary:
- 07:00 - Pick up from hotels and departure from Pattaya
- Dragon Temple Wat Samphan - one of the most unique temples in Thailand. It features a 50-meter pink building wrapped in a gigantic dragon. After several years of neglect, the temple was recently reconstructed, and now you can climb inside the dragon's body to the very top, to the open mouth. The Dragon's length is 300 meters, the building's height is 17 floors.
- Floating Market Damnoen Saduak - the largest in Southeast Asia. Experience a boat trip through the market stalls.
- Unfolding Umbrella Market in Samut Songkhram town. When the gong sounds, the entire market instantly folds up to make way for the railway tracks on which the Samut Songkhram Express passes. After the train has passed, the vendors return to their places.
- Amphawa City and a small walking tour through the historical quarters of the Thai Venice.
- A delicious lunch at a cozy national restaurant in Amphawa.
- Vat Ban Kung Thai Boxing Monastery. Taste the 'Elixir of Strength' near the ancient fig tree growing over the chapel, and see a small monastery zoo with animals rescued by monks.
- An evening boat ride and watching the fireflies twinkling on the riverside trees.
- 22:30 - Return to Pattaya
