About this experience
St. John's Wood is the northernmost part of Westminster with its fascinating history. Here Conan Doyle settled Sherlock Holmes' beloved. Here is the intersection from the iconic Abbey Road album cover and the studio where The Beatles recorded their hits. The grandson of Sigmund Freud lived here. I know many more facts about this amazing district and will definitely share them on the walk.
What to Expect
A Bit of History
St. John's Wood, in the heart of London, resembles a private village with villas and cozy backyard gardens. This appearance of the district appeared back in the 19th century, when the Eyre family, the owners of these lands, decided to design the perfect London suburb. In the 1850s, omnibuses already ran here, and in 1868 the first Marlborough Road metro station opened here. Now there are three synagogues here, as well as the city's central mosque and numerous Christian churches.
The Detective, Freud's Grandson, and a Russian Diplomat
I will tell you how the district is connected to the 'Beatles' and Sherlock Holmes. You will learn where the splendid residence of the American Ambassador is located and what important trace the Russian diplomat Count Semen Vorontsov left here. You will see the first residence in London of the British artist Lucian Freud - the grandson of Sigmund Freud. We will walk through Regent's Park, talk about one of the most important national British games and find its 'home' in London.
