About this experience
When you arrive in Siena for a day, it seems like you've traveled back to the Middle Ages. The city has remained so untouched since its heyday. The oldest bank in Europe, the Kamollia Gate, the Duomo, Piazza del Campo - the sights of Siena fully reflect its Gothic character - restrained and somewhat austere. And you will fully feel it on our tour!
What awaits you
Despite the fact that Siena is a fairly large tourist center, you don't feel the hustle and bustle here, completely immersing yourself in the terracotta brick buildings made of local red clay. Even a simple walk will bring a lot of pleasure, revealing new facets of this Italian city at every turn. So, in the program:
- The first location on the route is the Kamollia Gate. Once all arriving travelers passed through these gates, where the so-called "customs" was also carried out. Let's not break tradition and enter Siena through them.
- Advancing through the narrow streets, we will reach the cozy Piazza Salimbeni square, to admire the three palaces located here. You will find out what is located in them these days.
- On the way to the city center, we will look at the Loggia della Mercanzia, which was intended for meetings of the trade court. I will tell you for whom this building was originally built and how the statues made it famous.
- We will descend to Piazza del Campo. This is the heart of the city, where its history was decided and where to this day legendary Palio horse races take place every September. You will learn the history of the Palazzo Publico palace, the Torre del Mangia tower, and the wonderful Fountain of Joy, created by the hands of sculptors from the Renaissance period.
- We will reach the Sienese Duomo - the Cathedral - one of the most magnificent in Italy both outside and inside. We will admire the architecture and reveal where the most important Italian saint lived.
During the tour, we will pay attention to the hidden details of the city, telling the story of its inhabitants. We will not hurry: it is better to carefully examine shop windows, the decoration of houses, drop in for coffee at a historic pastry shop, and fully enjoy the unique atmosphere of the truly great city of Tuscany.
Organizational details
Separately (if desired), tickets to the Cathedral - €2 and coffee in a cafe - according to the menu are paid for.
