What to Expect
Sharm El Sheikh and Egypt: History and Life
The tour will last three hours: during this time, moving from one attraction to another, you will get acquainted with the city from different angles. You will learn about its geographical location, its roots back to biblical times, and the rapid development of the resort. As an Egyptologist, I will be happy to tell you about the history and mythology of Egypt as a whole. And as a local resident - about the daily life of Egyptians: traditions, family life, work, leisure, and national cuisine. Our program includes the following stops:
- El Mustafa Mosque (external observation). Before the construction of the El Sahaba Mosque in 2016, El Mustafa was the largest mosque in Sharm - but its beauty has not faded. You will admire this monumental and yet graceful temple, while I will tell you about the specifics of Islam in Egypt.
- Coptic Cathedral 'Residents of Heaven'. Many travelers are surprised that Egypt is the most Christian country in the Middle East. How did this denomination establish itself here and how does it feel today? Let's talk about this and visit the magnificent church with colorful stained glass windows and murals.
- Old Market, or Old Town and Bazaar. Our resort-city is young, so you won't see historical buildings here. But immerse yourself in the color of the Eastern Bazaar: you will have free time (about 1 hour) to stroll among souvenir shops and stalls. I will also show you the carved El Sahaba Mosque.
- Extraordinary Farsha Cafe - the most photogenic, fabulous, and romantic place in Sharm El Sheikh that every traveler must visit. You will enjoy an overview of this textured cafe: broken doors, crooked benches, broken jugs, and vases for flowers are everywhere here.
- Soho Square - a Europeanized corner in Sharm created for an evening promenade, which we will do. You will not miss the dancing fountain and take great photos.
