About this experience
If you have already seen the three famous ladies of the Louvre and other well-known masterpieces, I invite you to join this tour. You will explore the halls with French sculptures of the 17th and 18th centuries and paintings by great artists: Vermeer, Rembrandt, Dürer, Van Dyck, and others - while I will tell you about the history of creation and features of each masterpiece. And all this in a small group in the evening, when the Louvre is enveloped in a mysterious atmosphere, and the setting sun's rays shine through the windows.
What to Expect
French Sculptures
In the luxurious halls of the Louvre, where French sculptures of the 17th and 18th centuries are presented, you will see the following exhibits:
- Sculptures of the Marly courtyard, which adorned the magnificent park of the palace built by the Sun King Louis XIV;
- Milon of Croton sculpture, created by Pierre Puget for the Versailles park;
- Cupid with a Bow - you will learn why Voltaire criticized it, and Diderot defended it;
- Nude sculpture of Voltaire by Jean-Baptiste Pigalle - I will tell you why creating such a sculpture was an honor for the philosopher, what prompted the author to create it, and why viewers did not see the sculpture until its installation in the Louvre in 1962.
Great Paintings
I will tell you about the history of creation, artistic techniques, and features of significant works of painting on our route. You will see:
- 'The Lacemaker' by the Dutch artist Vermeer;
- 'Wise Men at a Table' and other masterpieces by Rembrandt;
- Dürer's Self-Portrait, known as the inventor of this genre and a pioneer of narcissism;
- Portrait of the English King Charles I by the Flemish artist Anthony van Dyck - the title of the king's personal painter was created specifically for him;
- Gallery of Marie de' Medici, presenting a cycle of 24 paintings by the Flemish artist Rubens telling the story of the queen.
...and much more - let's leave room for surprises!
