About this experience
The Louvre is a real labyrinth, where several hundred thousand exhibits are scattered across different halls and buildings. I will help you not to get lost in the huge museum, see the most significant works of world art, and understand the peculiarities of sculpture and painting.
What to expect
Ancient civilization masterpieces
In the beginning of the journey through the museum, I will show you the so-called 'First Louvre' - the remains of the fortress where Charlemagne lived, laying the foundations of the royal palace. You will find yourself in the underground between a huge fortress wall and a 14th-century castle. You will then visit the halls of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman art, where you will see the famous sphinx and meet the goddesses of Olympus - Athena and Aphrodite. I will also tell you the story of the discovery of the Venus de Milo and help you imagine what this girl looked like at the moment of creating the masterpiece. Besides, you will see the remains of Greek temples, Roman sculptural portraits, the frescoes of Pompeii, sarcophagi, and the sculpture of the Borghese Fighter.
Main highlights in the European halls
Looking at Canova's sculpture, you will hear about the love of Psyche and the god Amur. And with the works of Michelangelo, you will try to understand what the genius was thinking at the moment of creating his masterpieces. Of course, no walk through the Louvre can be complete without the Mona Lisa by da Vinci. You will learn why this is the most recognizable painting in the world and decipher the meaning of the famous portrait. Next, you will examine other canvases familiar to everyone from history textbooks: 'Liberty Leading the People,’ 'The Coronation of Napoleon,' and 'The Oath of the Horatii.'
Even more art!
After the tour, you can stay in the museum and independently visit the luxurious apartments of Napoleon III, walk among gigantic sculptures from the palace of the Assyrian ruler Sargon II, and see the sculptures of Versailles and Tuileries under the canopies of the Richelieu wing.
