About this experience
Rome is rightfully called the second Jerusalem - its Christian heritage is remarkably rich, and only the Italian capital can compete with the Holy Land. Here lived and preached the apostles Paul and Peter, hundreds of martyrs shed their blood for their faith, and an emperor, named equal to the apostles, ruled them. You will see many Roman holy places, immerse yourself in Christian history, and learn about the destinies of those who faithfully served the church.
What to Expect
Christian temples of Rome and their history
Every Christian temple erected in Rome has its own history. You will visit the Church of the Mother of God, the basilicas of St. John the Baptist and the Holy Cross of Jerusalem. You will see the staircase brought from the palace of Pontius Pilate, down which Jesus Christ descended on the day of his crucifixion with a crown of thorns on his head. And you will also learn the legend of the construction of the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos and about the icon that saved Rome from diseases.
Orthodox relics
In the churches of Rome, you will find a large number of tangible evidence of the earthly life of Christ, the relics of saints, and miraculous icons by famous artists such as Gian Lorenzo Bernini. One of the Roman icons, according to tradition, was painted by the evangelist Luke himself. You will see relics brought from Jerusalem by Queen Helena, and the manger in which Jesus lay as a baby. You will admire the mosaics of early Christian churches, the splendor of Renaissance temples, and be able to touch the relics of great saints.
