About this experience
The Roman Catholic Church, the largest of the Christian churches and one of the oldest religious institutions, has played a significant role in the history of Western civilization. On a guided tour of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, you will immerse yourself in the world of a thousand-year history of the Catholic faith and discover the secrets of one of its most influential birthplaces.
What to Expect
- Religion of Ancient Rome. As we reach St. Peter's Square, we will flip through the pages of history back to its inception, and I will tell you about the beliefs of ancient Romans, the sacred side of their lives, explain how faith changed in Ancient Rome, the role played by apostles Peter and Paul in this process, and how the worldview and mentality of the ancient city's inhabitants evolved.
- History and Features of St. Peter's Square. I will explain why the square was planned in such a way, its history, and for the most curious ones, I will demonstrate its layouts and drawings.
- Wealth and Sanctity of the Basilica. Next, we will enter St. Peter's Basilica, where you will see outstanding works of art created by sculptors and artists of worldwide fame. I will tell you what is kept in the labyrinths beneath the basilica and explain why this place is sacred for millions of believers and pilgrims for millennia.
- Vatican and the Catholic Church. On the street connecting the Vatican City and Italy, I will narrate the history of the unification and recognition of the Vatican as part of Italy and why, despite its established status, the Catholic Church was deprived of the opportunity for active political activities for decades.
- Castle and Bridge of the Holy Angel. As we reach the Castle of the Holy Angel, I will tell you its history and legends, after which we will stroll along the picturesque pedestrian Bridge of the Holy Angel, which has not only historical but also architectural value, where we will conclude our fascinating walk.
