About this experience
Welcome to the Reykjanes Peninsula, where Iceland's volcanic heart beats. Here you will encounter the hot springs of Krisuvik, the mud geysers of Gunnuhver, lava fields covered in moss, and the earth's crust fractures. Get ready to visit the Troll Pool and walk across the bridge between continents!
What to expect
Iceland's geothermal wonders
Our journey will take us through lava fields covered in gray-green moss to the active volcanic zone of Krisuvik. Here, by Lake Kleifarvatn, hot mud springs erupt to the surface, merging into a thermal river. You will explore the cosmic landscapes of Krisuvik, strolling along special wooden walkways and capturing the beauty and danger of this area. At Gunnuhver, located in the heart of the Reykjanes Global Geopark, you will encounter Iceland's largest mud geyser and hear the legend of an evil spirit trapped here by a priest. We will observe streams of boiling clay shooting out from underground several meters away from a safe distance, as their temperature reaches 300 degrees Celsius!
Troll Pool and bird markets
From the element of fire, we will move on to the element of water: the road will lead you to Brimketill - a remarkably picturesque natural pool carved by the waves of the Atlantic Ocean in soft lava rock. According to legend, this place was chosen for bathing by Icelandic trolls themselves. Swimming in Brimketill is dangerous due to the ocean surge - but the photos come out excellent! Afterwards, we will move to the beach near the monument to the vanished bird - the white-winged gull. On the coastal rocks in summer, you will see nesting noisy colonies of northern fulmars, and sometimes, if you are lucky, from the shore you can see the backs of whales swimming not far from the shore.
Bridge between continents
Arriving at the Reykjanes Peninsula, you will find yourself on the border of two giant lithospheric plates and will be able to walk within a couple of minutes from Europe to North America. You will appreciate the power of the local landscapes, learn how Iceland's shape changes every year due to the divergence of plates. And of course, you will walk across a bridge built over an earth crust fissure symbolizing the connection between continents.
