New Delhi is a district designed in the first half of the 20th century by the leading British architect Edwin Lutyens. It is known for its wide green boulevards and abundance of sights from different eras. You will see the famous India Gate and the Presidential Palace, a colorful Hindu temple, and the tomb of the Mughal emperor. And also the tallest brick minaret in the world!
What to Expect
Diverse Delhi
You will see all the landmarks of New Delhi and hear their history. The tour program includes:
- India Gate - you will admire the grand monument to the Indian soldiers who died in the wars of 1914-1921.
- Presidential Palace - we will see the official residence of the head of India from the outside. I will tell you when the palace was built, who designed it, and how it has been modified over time.
- Birla Mandir Temple - we will visit one of the main Hindu temples in Delhi dedicated to the goddess Lakshmi. It was opened by Mahatma Gandhi on condition that people of all castes would be allowed to enter.
- Humayun's Tomb - you will explore the splendid beauty of the Mughal emperor's mausoleum, built by his widow in the 16th century.
- Qutb Minar - an example of medieval Indo-Islamic architecture. It was supervised by several generations of the Delhi Sultanate. I will tell you exactly how it happened.
