About this experience
Amazingly, the fact is: the capital of North Holland is not Amsterdam, which is also located in this province, but Haarlem 15 km away. This cozy city has preserved medieval architecture beautifully, exudes a sense of antiquity, and allows you to see typical Dutch life. I have lived here for several years and I will gladly introduce you to its history, show atmospheric places, and take professional photos for you to remember.
What to expect
I invite you to immerse yourself in the centuries-old history of a city that the Dutch counts made their residence in the 12th century and where the government of the entire province still holds its meetings. There are no tourist crowds here, and it is very pleasant to stroll along the peaceful streets and courtyards. And the photos turn out simply wonderful - I will suggest the best angles.
- Our route will pass through the 'Golden Streets', medieval squares, and mysterious hidden courtyards.
- Our walk will start near the main train station in Haarlem, which 'played' the Amsterdam station in a Hollywood film where characters played by George Clooney and Brad Pitt were waiting for the train.
- We will walk along the most picturesque part of the main city river Spaarne, see the famous windmill Adriaan, the oldest town hall in the Netherlands, and the very first Dutch museum.
- We will discuss old and new architecture.
- You will learn what lies within the walls of the former city prison.
- In the main cathedral of medieval Haarlem, you will appreciate its majestic interior and see the incredibly large organ that Mozart himself played!
- You will also enjoy views of grand churches with interesting and unusual histories. Among them is a temple transformed into a brewery with a bar inside, where you can stop by for a pint of beer or a snack.
