About this experience
Who are the impressionists? What is classical art? What is the difference between them? To understand this, we will study masterpieces created according to the rules and outside the rules. We will talk about the real war that broke out among artists 150 years ago, and who emerged as the winner. We will delve a little into the Parisian life of the 19th century, and in the end, we will vote for the favorite artists.
What to Expect
About the Museum
Parisian children start visiting the Orsay Museum regularly from the age of 5. The former train station is now a real time machine that will take you on a journey into the past. The museum is dedicated to French art and boasts the richest collection of impressionism in the world.
- We will visit the halls on the lower floor with representatives of academic art and on the upper floor with works of impressionists and post-impressionists.
- Through specific examples, children and adults will understand what classical art is, how artists created their masterpieces following certain rules. We will see works by artists such as Toma Couture, Jean-Leon Gerome, Ingres, Cabanel, Bouguereau.
- Then we will compare this "correct" art, created according to strict canons, with paintings from the same era but painted by rebellious artists who did not adhere to the rules. These are the impressionists and post-impressionists, such as Edouard Manet, Claude Monet, Renoir, Degas, Cezanne, Seurat, Van Gogh, Gauguin. We will analyze how different the technique and subjects of their paintings are from the classical ones.
- We will talk about Paris and the French of that era.
- At the end of the tour, each participant will reflect on which art they liked the most and why.
Please note: the Orsay Museum often changes its exposition, lends paintings to other museums for exhibitions. Therefore, I cannot guarantee that you will see specific paintings. But even if some paintings are missing, they are replaced by other works by the same artists.
