What to Expect
Marseille through the Senses
Our walk is an experience with hints of history, taste, aesthetics, local character, and humor in a friendly atmosphere. Marseille through the eyes of a local is hidden corners of childhood flavors and places of relaxation for the souls and bodies of the people of Marseille. Our tour begins the moment you arrive from the port, airport, or another city closer to Marseille's center. I will meet you to save you from wandering in a large unfamiliar city and navigating with a map in hand. We will start by discussing the history and temperament of Marseille, which have been shaping for 3000 years, visit the tasting spots of ancient Greek and Provencal favorite products, and then energize ourselves with a hot pastis - the drink of true Marseillais. We will complement the tastes with visual pleasures: panoramic views from interesting angles taken from fragments of legendary Marseille films. You will visit the oldest part of the city's port, steeped in history for 2600 years, the fortress of Saint John, and the basilica of Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde, which has been towering over Marseille for eight centuries. I will tell you how the basilica competed with the Eiffel Tower itself, eliciting pride from the citizens!
Coffee Break and Traces of Count of Monte Cristo
You cannot get to know Marseille in a hurry, so we will allow ourselves small pleasures - stops for tastings, a photo session against the backdrop of Chateau d'If from a bird's eye view, and more! You will also immerse yourself in the ambiance of the 19th century and the lives of the main characters of the book "The Count of Monte Cristo." I will tell you where the truth lies in the book and where the author's fiction is, and help you experience the atmosphere of the 'other Marseille' - I will guide you in the footsteps of the characters of the beloved book.
