Mumbai is a city that can amaze even the most seasoned traveler! Here, slums and skyscrapers, luxury and poverty coexist. You will see its glamorous side: the Gateway of India, the luxurious Taj Mahal Palace hotel, and the bohemian district of Colaba. You will also take a ferry to the historic Elephanta Island, known for its cave temple complexes.
What to expect
Mumbai, ferry ride, and Elephanta Island
You will stroll through the city center and visit the historic Elephanta Island, just 10 km from Mumbai. The tour includes:
- Gateway of India - the city's landmark. I will tell you when and in honor of what event it was constructed.
- Taj Mahal Palace hotel - I will show you the most luxurious hotel in Mumbai, once the first electrified building in India. You will learn the amusing story that preceded its construction and how its owner managed to outdo competitors.
- Colaba district - we will visit the most bohemian area of the city, where fashionable clothing boutiques, fine dining restaurants, museums, and galleries are located. You will see how the modern Indian metropolis lives.
- Elephanta Island - we will take a ferry from Mumbai to the small island in the Arabian Sea. You will hear its history and visit the cave temple complex carved by monks in the 5th-8th centuries. You will also learn about the god Shiva to whom it is dedicated.
Organizational Details
- To enter the caves on Elephanta Island, one must climb 100 challenging steps. The tour is not suitable for travelers with young children or individuals with limited physical abilities.
- Additional expenses: ferry - 260 rupees per person, caves on the island - 600 rupees per person. Travelers also pay for guide tickets.
