About this experience
The Prado is one of the most famous art museums in the world, exhibiting works of the greatest masters of various European schools. You will walk through halls with collections of Spanish monarchs, see the richest collection of Spanish paintings and masterpieces of famous artists. Discover the differences between different schools, motives in the works of geniuses, and deepen your appreciation for the visual arts.
What to expect
Collections of the Spanish monarchs
The names of the artists whose paintings are displayed in the Prado speak for themselves: Raphael, Leonardo da Vinci, Sandro Botticelli, Caravaggio, Titian, Bosch, Bruegel, Rubens, Rembrandt, Durer, Cranach the Elder, Velazquez, Goya, El Greco… You will learn about which Spanish monarch was responsible for the museum's creation on the Paseo del Prado and how collections were gathered, how artistic tastes changed from era to era. I will tell you about the distinctive features of Flemish, Italian, French, English, German, and, of course, Spanish painting schools. And during the tour, as you move from hall to hall, from collection to collection, you will notice key characteristics and differences.
Masterpieces
We will try to give proper attention to each of the great masters whose works are presented at the Prado. You will examine the enigmatic paintings of Hieronymus Bosch – "The Garden of Earthly Delights" and "Hay Wain", delve into the art of one of the founders of the Baroque art – Peter Paul Rubens. The collection of Italian paintings will introduce you to the Renaissance era, and Titian's paintings will allow you to trace the entire creative path of this artist. But, of course, the main focus will be on works of the Spanish school. El Greco's "Portrait of a Gentleman with his Hand on his Chest" and "The Adoration of the Shepherds", Diego Velazquez's "Las Meninas" and Franciso de Goya's paintings – understanding Spanish painting is impossible without visiting the Prado.
