This immersive walk is an opportunity to discover all the essentials of Krakow in one day with a professional guide. The beautiful Mariacki Church, the secrets of the Market Square, the legends and facts of Wawel Castle, as well as the streets that hold the complex past of Kazimierz - in 7.5 hours, you will not only appreciate the most beautiful Polish city, but also get to know its joys and sorrows.
What to expect
Kings, dragons, and colorful houses - the essence of the Old Town and its surroundings
On an introductory walk through Old Krakow, you will trace the path of the beautiful city on the Vistula that was the capital of Poland for five centuries. I will not only tell you about its history but also immerse you in legends and curious stories about the inhabitants of the old houses. The key attractions will serve as a backdrop for the tales.
- Walking along the Royal Route, you will pass the route of royal processions from the grand Florian Gate to Wawel Castle. We will talk about the barbican watchtower and head towards the heart of the city through medieval alleys past merchant houses.
- In the bustling Market Square, the focus will be on the Mariacki Church. Inside, I will tell you about the details of the altar crafted by Veit Stoss, and the trumpeter from the high tower will play the traditional melody "Hejnał". Next, you will immerse yourself in stories about the inhabitants of the medieval colorful houses on the square - they remember False Dmitriy, Marina Mniszek, Italian architect Santi Gucci, and other interesting characters.
- Through the academic quarter, we will reach Wawel Castle. Here, on the high bank of the Vistula, you will get acquainted with the "biography" of the castle, a symbol of Poland: you will hear legends about dragons, the reign of Casimir the Great, the heyday of Wawel, its destructions, and gradual revival.
Polish dining experience!
To recharge before the second part of the tour, you will have lunch in a restaurant serving traditional Polish dishes, and I will talk about the culinary traditions of the country and recommend other delicacies worth trying.
Tragedies and joys of the Jewish quarter Kazimierz
From the first minutes and through the winding streets of Kazimierz, you will immerse yourself in the past of the quarter and its inhabitants - from the secluded life of the first settlements to the scars left by the Second World War. You will explore the old and active synagogues, walk near the Skalka Church, stroll through the oldest cemetery in Krakow, and hear the legend associated with the Charles Bridge in Prague. Let's recall Oskar Schindler, a German who saved 1200 Jews during the Holocaust. It was in Kazimierz that Steven Spielberg filmed the movie about this story: we'll follow its footsteps and talk about Schindler's factory. In 2.5 hours with my assistance, the sights of Kazimierz will help you understand its past and feel its present - today it is a fashionable and bohemian district of Krakow.
