About this experience
Kazimierz, the most bohemian district of the ancient capital, has witnessed great tragedies. I have been living here for many years, studying the biography of the quarter, and now I will reveal its most interesting chronicles to you. I will tell you how its inhabitants lived, how they achieved success and lost loved ones. Together, we will trace the path that Jewish Krakow has taken - from its foundation to the present day. The authentic decorations of Kazimierz, its modern life, legends, and historical details will help you understand the place that the persecuted people have occupied in Poland's destiny for centuries.
What to Expect
Stories of Famous Personalities of the Quarter
In the Church of St. Stanislaus, you will hear about the life and martyrdom of the patron saint of Krakow and the whole of Poland, learn about the people who glorified the country and are buried in the church's pantheon. On Szeroka Street, you will understand why a monument to Jan Karski was erected. Here, near the house of businesswoman Helena Rubinstein, we will talk about her successes in business, and at Wolnica Square, I will take you to the residence of another woman - Esther, the mistress of King Kazimierz, who played a significant role in the fate of the local residents. Of course, my narrative will also touch upon the filming of the movie 'Schindler's List' in the quarter. You will visit the filming locations where I will explain why Spielberg used these locations and why Roman Polanski refused to direct because of them.
Immerse in the Religion and Culture of the Residents of Kazimierz
Exploring synagogues, the ritual bath, and the old Jewish cemetery, you will understand the Jewish rituals and customs of modern life in the district. We will touch upon the topic of relations between Jews and Polish neighbors - the isolation of the first settlers in the area and the cohabitation of the present. You will see Catholic churches and find out where the largest organs in Krakow are kept and what is remarkable about the Corpus Christi holiday. Additionally, I will immerse you in the bohemian Kazimierz of the 21st century - we will stroll along the popular restaurants frequented by the local creative elite. We will visit a cafe styled as an old Krakow apartment, and then you will explore authentic Jewish shops.
