About this experience
Evora is a true treasure for archaeologists and all curious travelers. Around it are scattered the most important witnesses of ancient cults of Portugal: stone circles, dolmens, and megaliths. You will definitely see them! You will also stroll through the Old Town, visit the famous Escoural Cave, the Cathedral and the Church made of monks' bones. I will share their legends and stories with you.
What to expect
Walk through the Old Town
We will walk through the real medieval streets of the once great city. You will visit the church of Saint Francis made of monks' bones and decipher the strange symbolism on its walls. Visit the magnificent Cathedral where Vasco Da Gama blessed the flags. Admire the well-preserved Roman Temple of Diana and have lunch in a traditional restaurant located in a house of a medieval witch.
Journey thousands of years back
You will learn the details of our research on ancient megalithic observatories, giant megaliths, and menhirs. You will see the second most important stone circle in the world and a Christian chapel built on the basis of a megalith. Immerse yourself in the largest dolmen in Europe and, accompanied by my colleague-archaeologist, descend into the Escoural Cave to see the Neolithic rock paintings.
