About this experience
At different times, Edirne belonged to the Romans, Byzantines, Greeks, and Turks. You will see artifacts from different eras here: Byzantine bridges, old mosques, Ottoman wooden houses, and Orthodox churches. Visit the local market, admire the Maritsa River, and learn about how the Turkish countryside with a great past lives.
What to expect
Exemplary Selimiye Mosque
You will appreciate the most important symbol of Edirne - the magnificent Selimiye Mosque, which the great architect Sinan called the "diploma of his mastery". Surrounded by a blossoming garden, it includes a madrasah, libraries, hospitals, and baths. I will tell its rich history and explain why Selimiye is considered the benchmark of Ottoman architecture. I will also show you the Rüstem Pasha Caravanserai and the Old 15th-century Mosque.
Edirne Today
Edirne is not just ancient mosques, but also cozy cafes, colorful streets, and vibrant eastern bazaars. You will visit the Covered Bazaar, relax with a cup of coffee on the banks of the Maritsa River, which separates Turkey and Greece, and try a local specialty - liver prepared according to a secret recipe. In addition, visit the ancient healing center, built in imitation of the Pergamum Asklepion.
