What to Expect
Secrets of Milan's Cathedrals and Churches
Let's start the walk with the main Duomo Cathedral, where you will learn why the temple took almost six centuries to build, who the mysterious lady in black is, who accelerated the construction process, and other secrets of the city's main symbol. Explore the Church of San Gottardo and hear about the 14th-century superstitions that influenced Milanese architecture. Then, visit the 6th-century San Bernardino alle Ossa, a medieval ossuary, where I will share why its walls were lined with real skulls and bones and what spooky stories the church's servants still tell to this day.
Milan and Fashion
Near the first commercial Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, you will learn how and when Milan earned the proud title of the fashion capital, hear the story of the passionate project author. I will also show you the very first Prada boutique and the balcony where Giorgio Armani looks out. In the 1824 pastry shop owned by a fashion house, you can enjoy a coffee break.
Ancient and Bohemian Corners
At the Royal Palace, you will be transported back to the times of great rulers, later seeing the balcony from which Mussolini made speeches. Stroll through the colorful streets of Milan's Montmartre and discover the atmosphere of the city's most bohemian district. Uncover the secrets of the legendary La Scala Theatre. Hear intriguing stories about the dukes of the famous Sforza dynasty and uncover where Leonardo da Vinci lived and worked in Milan near the Sforza Castle. In San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore, the local Sistine Chapel, admire the exquisite frescoes of his students.
Gastronomic Places for Locals
Along the way, I will also point out where to find the best Italian gelato and non-touristy establishments with excellent traditional cuisine in the city center. We will also discuss the national attitude towards food, gastronomic traditions, the most atmospheric cafes for morning rituals, and other places where native Milanese prefer to have lunch and dinner.
