About this experience
Malmö is the perfect city for cycling tours, as it is the most popular means of transport here. The pace and route of the excursion will easily allow you to see more sights than by walking or driving, and to discover the authenticity of Malmö. You will learn about the city's history, understand how its residents use precious resources for the benefit of themselves and nature, and gain a wealth of impressions from the changing views of this old and modern city.
What to expect
Explore the city's history
During the tour, you will learn about where the center of Malmö was in the Middle Ages, how people fought for survival here, and where the city's residents obtained water at different times. I will tell you who founded the port of Malmö and where ships and ferries moored before the bridge was built, what is remarkable about the ancient Gothic church, and what happened to the city's main castle. We will talk about the transformation of Malmö in the 20th century: stockings, pots, Saab cars, submarines, and even luxury cruise ships were all produced here, and the development of industry also affected the city's appearance.
Malmö's ecological aspects
You will see how Malmö lives in the post-industrial era and what innovations are in use here: as you ride your bike, you will see modern buildings, buses running on biofuel, solar panels on house roofs, and cozy courtyards of new neighborhoods. You will visit an area known as Malmöhattan, where rainwater collection is used as the main resource for water supply, ride through the Big and Small Squares, Western Harbor, and the city park. You will be treated to a breathtaking view of the tallest building in Northern Europe and the longest bridge.
