About this experience
Let's head to the eastern outskirts of Baku. Here, you will visit the Gala Ethno-Museum and the Balakhany village, where you will journey through the past, discover ethnography and architecture, as well as learn about the history of Azerbaijani oil, including the launching of the first oil pipeline in the Russian Empire in the late 19th century. Then, we will explore the local market filled with aromatic spices and fresh fruits from all corners of the country.
What to Expect
Gala Ethno-Museum
The excursion will commence with a visit to the old village of Gala, now a historical-ethnographic reserve and open-air museum, where you will immerse yourself in the unique lifestyle of the Azerbaijani people from the 10th to 19th centuries, explore the past, learn about the daily life of the local population, and even take photos among contemporary art exhibitions made from recycled garbage.
*Balakhany Village-Museum
Next, we will drive through Balakhany village, one of the first places where hundreds of oil fields were discovered, leading to the rise of Azerbaijani oil magnates in the 19th century. Today, the museum-village has been completely renovated in the style of a provincial village, with beautiful vibrant facades adorned with paintings and lively floral decor, unique souvenir shops, and small cafes, ready to narrate the story of the oil boom in Azerbaijan.
Green Market
We will conclude our journey at a small market in Baku. Here, you will find products from all corners of the country: fruits, spices, nuts, jams, and authentic Azerbaijani tea. And of course, local vendors will be delighted to offer you a small tasting, while I assist you in making choices.
