About this experience
Six last sultans of the Ottoman Empire resided in the Dolmabahce Palace. You will discover the destinies of noble families, authentic interiors, and a museum with a rich collection of paintings. Learn about the origins of the Ottoman dynasty, how to become a favorite wife, and why the palace is called a crystal casket. Also, admire still lifes, landscapes, and portraits.
What to Expect
Selamlik - the male part of the palace, where the destinies of the empire were shaped and envoys from various countries were received after the 19th century. I will tell you:
- Why Abdul-Majid was the most gentle of sultans and why he built his own palace
- What Abdul-Hamid is known for and how one of his favorite daughters described his life
- Why Abdul-Aziz's fate turned out to be very tragic
Harem - a captivating theme. You will learn:
- How the hierarchy of the female part of the palace was structured
- Where the rooms of the most illustrious were located and how concubines visited them
- Who Pertevniyal was and how she tried to protect her beloved son from premature death
Art Museum - a rich and exquisite collection of paintings. You will pass through thematic halls:
- Views of Istanbul and its landmarks
- Nature and still lifes
- The dynastic branch of the Ottomans and their favorite concubines
- Paintings of marine artist Ivan Aivazovsky
- Works of Turkish artists
There are also entertainments for little guests on the tour. Children will solve puzzles, color a picture, draw their impressions, and participate in a quiz. And also feed the cats (bring your own feed).
