About this experience
Middle Ages, 19th century, and modernity in half a day! Visit two palaces - a typical Eastern and a fancy European one. Immerse yourself in history, see the works of Aivazovsky, and royal gifts. Additionally, I will show you a splendid viewpoint in Istanbul and tell you where to take cool non-touristic photos in the palaces.
What to Expect
You will explore two Istanbul palaces and delve into their rich history. I will tell you about sultans and harems, show you where ancient Greeks and Byzantines lived. We will travel from one palace to another on a city tram and admire urban landscapes from the windows. We will also climb to an observation deck and enjoy a stunning view of the Bosphorus.
Topkapi Palace - the magnificent era and harem life
The pathways of the Topkapi palace complex will take you to the 16th century, to the era of Sultan Suleiman I's 46-year reign. I will explain why this time became the Magnificent Century. You will learn about the rise and fall of the Ottoman Empire, how it was governed, and how the treasury was replenished.
Together we will explore the halls and rooms of the palace, which will introduce you to the lifestyle of the ruling dynasty. In the numerous rooms of the harem, you will immerse yourself in the world of palace intrigues and understand the role of women in governing the country. Of course, I will tell you the true story of Roxelana.
After the tour, we will spend 30 minutes. In the palace's park, I will take you to an observation deck where there are no tourist crowds, and you will take impressive photos.
Dolmabahce Palace - the splendid whim of the Turkish sultan
The residence of sultans, which became a symbol of Istanbul's grandeur and the decline of the Ottoman Empire, has a rich history. I will tell you how, why, and according to which standard they decided to build a palace unusual for its era and culture.
You will appreciate the luxurious decoration of the rooms, learn about the architecture of the complex, and see an extensive collection of paintings. You will see the sword of Nicholas I and the bear's skin he gifted to Sultan Abdul-Mejid I, as well as the crystal chandelier - a gift from Queen Victoria. You will also visit a hall entirely dedicated to Aivazovsky - the artist visited and worked in Constantinople many times, and he painted as many as 40 canvases specifically for Dolmabahce.
After the tour, you will have free time - 45 minutes. I will take you to a corridor with a panoramic view, where you will take beautiful photographs.
