About this experience
I invite you to walk through the corners where the criminal comedy 'In Bruges' was filmed with the charming Colin Farrell and Ralph Fiennes. You will see the city through the eyes of the movie characters, walk the same streets, and visit the same hotels as they did. I will tell you about the history, culture, and modern life of Bruges and about other movies filmed here.
What to expect
- You will walk through the Market Square. I will explain how the watchtower was built, from which one of the main movie characters, Ken, fell.
- You will visit the Jan van Eyck Square, featured in the movie. In the Middle Ages, it served as an inland port where duties were imposed on goods from the external ports of Bruges.
- You will enter the Basilica of the Holy Blood and find out which church scenes were actually filmed there and why.
- Like the movie characters, you will visit the Fish Market, built in the 19th century, and stroll along the Rozenhoedkaai quay. I will explain why the latter has nothing to do with roses.
- You will peek into two hotels – Relais Bourgondisch Cruyce, where Ken and Ray stayed, and De Tuilerieën, where the actors stayed during the shooting.
- The Gruuthuse Museum deserves special attention, as its collection attracted the movie characters. You will admire the facade of the building, and I will tell you about the masterpieces it houses.
- You will also see the Church of Our Lady, the Arentshof, and the palace of the Gruuthuse family, where Ray met Chloe. You will cross the bridge over Minnewater Lake and hear the legend about its name.
Organizational details
