In the City of the Black Jaguar, you will visit miraculously preserved archaeological sites, learn about the past glory of Ek Balam, and behold its magical surroundings from the top of the Acropolis. Take a dip in a sacred cenote, savor Yucatecan cuisine, visit a tequila factory, and explore the complex of Chichen Itza, where you will encounter the main legends of Mesoamerica.
What to Expect
City of the Black Jaguar, or Ek Balam
The journey begins with a visit to a significant Mayan city that has not been fully explored yet. Buildings hidden in dense jungles for a long time are incredibly well-preserved. As you stroll through the archaeological zone, you will see unique ancient monuments, uncover the city's secrets and legends, visit an observatory, and climb to the top of the Acropolis, offering incredible views of the surroundings.
Magnificent Cenote and Tequila Factory
Next, I will take you to a less touristy cenote where you can enjoy views of pristine tropical nature and swim in the clear waters of a traditional Yucatan water hole. You will also taste authentic Yucatecan cuisine. Afterwards, you will visit a tequila factory, where you will sample the famous drink of modern Mexico and learn about its history and production process.
Legendary Chichen Itza
At the end of the program, you will visit perhaps the most famous place in Mesoamerica, where you will delve into the history of this sacred complex. Explore the Kukulkan pyramid, the Temples of the Warriors and the Jaguar, hear about the legendary god - the Feathered Serpent, or Quetzalcoatl. Discover the contribution of the Mayan civilization to world mythology, uncover the symbolism of ancient sports games, and walk through places that still intrigue the minds of scientists, adventurers, and mystics.
Organizational Details
How the Tour Works
- We will pick you up from hotels in the Riviera Maya and Cancun and drop you back after the tour.
- Gathering starts at 06:00 - 07:00 depending on the hotel's location. The tour runs from 8:30 to 19:00 and ends around 20:00 - 20:30.
Rules for Visiting Sites
- Use of sunscreen in the cenote, as well as smoking and drone filming in the archaeological zones, are prohibited.
- Children under 5 years old, as well as individuals under the influence of alcohol or psychoactive substances, are not allowed on the tour.
