About this experience
In the City of the Black Jaguar, you will visit miraculously preserved archaeological sites, learn about the past grandeur of Ek Balam, and gaze at its magical surroundings from the top of the Acropolis. Take a dip in a sacred cenote, taste Yucatecan cuisine, and visit a tequila factory. Additionally, you will visit the Chichen Itza complex, where you will encounter the main legends of Mesoamerica.
What to Expect
City of the Black Jaguar, or Ek Balam
The journey begins with a visit to a significant Mayan city that has yet to be fully explored. The well-preserved structures hidden in the deep jungles will amaze you. While walking through the archaeological zone, you will see unique ancient monuments, learn the city's secrets and legends, visit the observatory, and climb to the top of the Acropolis, offering an incredible view of the surroundings.
Enchanting Cenote and Tequila Factory
Next, I will take you to a less touristy cenote where you can enjoy views of pristine tropical nature and swim in the clear waters of a traditional Yucatecan water hole. You will also taste authentic Yucatecan cuisine. After that, you will visit a tequila factory to sample the famous modern Mexican drink and learn about its history and production process.
Legendary Chichen Itza
To conclude the program, you will visit perhaps the most famous place in Mesoamerica, where you will connect with the history of the sacred complex. Explore the Kukulkan pyramid, the Temples of the Warriors and the Jaguars, and hear about the legendary deity – the Plumed Serpent, or Quetzalcoatl. Discover the contribution of the Mayan civilization to global mythology, unravel the symbolism of ancient sports games, and walk through places that still fascinate the minds of scientists, adventure seekers, and mystics.
Organizational Details
Tour Itinerary
- We will pick you up from hotels in Riviera Maya and Cancun and drop you off after the tour
- Assembly starts at 06:00 – 07:00 depending on the hotel's location. The tour runs from 8:30 to 19:00 and concludes around 20:00 – 20:30.
Visiting Rules
- Use of sunscreen in the cenote, as well as smoking and drone filming in archaeological zones, are prohibited
- Children under 5 years old, as well as individuals under the influence of alcohol or psychoactive drugs, are not allowed on the tour
