About this experience
Puerto Plata is not just a cluster of beaches on the Atlantic coast, but also a treasure trove of historical monuments, natural beauty, and craft factories. In a group of up to 20 people, you will discover the main locations of the resort: take a walk in the Isabel de Torres National Park, taste local chocolate, rum, and amber products, and feel the atmosphere of the 19th century in the old districts.
What to Expect
Isabel de Torres National Park: in 1.5-2 hours you will see the famous statue of Jesus Christ and walk in the luxurious Botanical Garden with 700 species of plants. Feed the fish and turtles, visit a typical house of ancient settlers of the Hispaniola island. You will also see how bananas, cocoa, and aloe are grown.
Chocolate factory: you will see the process of making organic chocolate, taste delicious hot chocolate and brownies. In the branded store, you can buy chocolate, natural cocoa butter, and cosmetics.
Rum production factory: you will have a tasting of 4 types of local liqueur, Mama Juana drink, and wine made from beach grapes and pineapples. You can purchase your favorite drinks at factory prices.
Amber Museum Factory: at a small production site, you will see samples of the sun stone and be able to buy jewelry with amber and larimar.
Colonial part of the city: strolling through the streets of the 19th century, we will discuss the history of Puerto Plata. We will see buildings in the Byzantine style, visit the Cathedral, and explore a charming alley with umbrellas. Then we will stop for lunch at a restaurant overlooking the mountains.
San Felipe Fortress: by bus, we will reach the oldest colonial fortress in America. These sturdy walls once securely protected Puerto Plata from pirates, and the coral reefs prevented ships from getting too close.
