About this experience
I invite you to enjoy the atmosphere of the stylish Eixample district, learn about its history, and attend four wine tastings at the market, restaurant, bar, and family tavern. You will discover the characteristics of Spanish wines, guess the grape variety without looking at the label, and learn to distinguish young wine from aged wine by color, and expensive wine from budget wine by taste. This combination of taste and contemplative experiences will help you get to know sunny Valencia better.
What to Expect
Listening to wine is listening to the city
We will walk through Eixample, the trendiest district of Valencia. Along the way, I will tell you about the history and architecture of this part of the city, its settlement, decline, and revival. At the end of the walk, you will find yourself in the hipster district of Russafa and understand why the city hall has banned new establishments here. And a blind wine tasting, where you will listen to your sensations and emotions, will also help you look at the city itself — hear it and experience it.
Special Wine Tasting at 4 Unique Locations
During the three-hour walk, I will explain what to pay attention to when tasting wine, guide you through the varieties and geography of Spanish wines, and advise you on how to choose this beverage in local supermarkets. You will taste wine following the rules of blind tasting: moving from glass to glass with a scoring sheet where you will describe the color, aroma, taste, and aftertaste. You will experience 4 tastings:
- At a cafe in the Colon Market — we will also take a walk through Valencia's Art Nouveau masterpiece market.
- In a typical Spanish wine cellar, where we will try a powerful red wine made from Bobal grapes native to Valencia.
- In a cheese restaurant — a stylish establishment where you will also taste Spanish cheeses, and a cheese sommelier will help you understand them.
- In a family tavern of Basque descendants — a cheerful and friendly place, existing since 1933, where you will try Txakoli, a light sparkling white wine from the Basque Country.
