About this experience
In the cozy Belgian town, everything is set for you to spend a heartfelt and interesting time. You will hear the history of the ancient citadel, admire the astonishing stained glass windows of the Gothic cathedral, learn about the abbey that gave its name to Belgium's most famous beer, stroll through the castle and the exquisite Fréyr Gardens. You will also find out why Dinant is filled with so many saxophone symbols.
What to Expect
Dinant Citadel, Leffe Beer and Notre-Dame
You will visit the centuries-old defensive structure dating back to the 11th century. You can reach it by cable car or on foot through a steep staircase. At the fortress and the museum, I will tell you about the many battles the citadel has witnessed. You will also visit the Gothic cathedral of Our Lady of Dinant, where you will admire stunning stained glass windows and statues. The itinerary also includes a Beer Museum, where we will discuss the brewing traditions of the ancient abbey and the arguably most famous Belgian beer - Leffe, which they specifically produce.
Castle and Fréyr Gardens
During a short voyage along the river, you will observe the city's landscapes and learn interesting facts about its life - for example, why there are saxophone models and symbols everywhere and why a monument to Charles de Gaulle was erected in Dinant. Within the 14th-century castle located on the eponymous mountain, you will explore ancient rooms and decorative elements following all medieval canons, see works of art, learn about crowned figures, and of course, explore the corners of the exquisite garden filled with scents of lime and orange. In case your visit falls when the gardens are closed, I will offer an alternative - the Cave of Wonders. In the twilight grottos, you will encounter whimsical formations playing with light and shadows.
If you decide to stay in Dinant, at the end of the tour, I will suggest many more interesting places for independent visits.
