About this experience
In the Middle Ages, Ghent was the second largest European city after Paris, and you can easily feel its historical atmosphere even now. Enjoy the architecture and Belgian 'specialties' – waffles, chocolate, beer, cuisine – in Ghent without the crowds of tourists around you.
What to Expect
We will stroll along magical quays, market squares, see early medieval castles of the Counts of Flanders and Gerard the Devil, the cathedrals of St. Nicholas and St. Bavo (with the famous 'Adoration of the Mystic Lamb' altarpiece by Van Eyck), the cozy Patershol district. The 'patchwork' building of the town hall, constructed in different architectural styles, deserves special attention. However, Ghent is not limited to the historical center – we also have specific 'graffiti' streets, a modern Expo Center, numerous green parks, industrial areas, and even a baroque-style church and an abbey with its own vineyard.
I received my education in Ghent at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts: I am a qualified Bachelor of Visual Arts and would gladly offer to spend a day in this city in my company. We will visit all the noteworthy areas, explore churches, relax in local cafes known only to the residents, taste traditional Ghent dishes and sweets, maybe even some beer or jenever. As a memory of our walk, I will send you photos. The highlight of this tour is not the abundance of historical facts and details (which can always be found in a guidebook), but in revealing to you one of the 'secrets of Europe'.
