What to Expect
Region at the Foot of the Andes
Many travelers visit Mendoza to learn about wine and explore local wineries. However, I want to show you a different side of this place. We will venture out of the city to admire the incredible nature, mountains, and condors soaring in the canyon.
During the journey, I will talk about the culture and traditions of Argentina, including the formation of the liberation center from colonizers here and why the army that freed Chile originated from this region.
Highlights:
- Potrerillos Reservoir in the protected foothill zone. Swim or have a picnic here if desired.
- Three mountain hikes to choose from, ranging from easy near the reservoir to moderate and challenging routes. Advance notice required for the challenging hike.
- Seven-Colored Mountain – contemplate if there are indeed only seven colors from the observation deck.
- Old Telegraph Station – reach it via the serpentine road and then head to the edge of the canyon for photography and scenic views.
- Flora and Fauna: Along the way, we may encounter guanacos, condors, and foxes, which are often seen but keep their distance from humans.
Estimated Excursion Timing:
- 1 hour – drive from Mendoza to the reservoir
- 3-5 hours – hiking (duration depends on the chosen route)
- 40 mins – drive from the reservoir to the Seven-Colored Mountain
