About this experience
Nicosia is a unique city where Bronze Age antiquities coexist with 16th-century Venetian walls and modern architectural masterpieces by Zaha Hadid and Jean Nouvel. You will stroll through the main streets of the capital of Cyprus, admire sculptures, a mosque, and a palace. I will tell you what the local Liberty statue symbolizes and how the city's name is connected to poplar trees.
What to Expect
- You will walk along part of the perimeter of the Venetian walls and the main square of the city - Eleftheria. Discover what was here 4000 years ago and why the city was originally called Lefkosia - because of white walls, poplar trees, or King Lefkas.
- Admire several sculptural compositions, including the Liberty Monument, as well as the ancient aqueduct, Famagusta Gate, a mosque, and a 16th-century Turkish hammam.
- Visit the Chamber Museum of Folk Art in the old Archbishop's Palace building. Explore the Orthodox churches of the old town and the conceptual project of the new municipal complex.
- Climb to the viewing platform of the Shacolas Tower on Ledra pedestrian street and enjoy the city - its northern and southern parts - from above.
Organizational Details
- Additional Expenses: ticket to the Chamber Museum of Folk Art - 2 euros/person, ascent to the observation deck - 2.5 euros/person.
- If desired, you can pass through the checkpoint to the northern part of the city. You must have your passport and Cyprus visa with you.
- The tour will be interesting for adults and children from 7 years old.
- Upon request, I can arrange a transfer from other cities. For details and prices, please inquire in the correspondence.
