About this experience
Many travelers settle in the west of Phuket and spend most of their time there. But the island is notable not only for its sea and nature. In Phuket Town and nearby there are many temples, cultural and historical sites. I will show you secret locations and tell you about the daily life of the locals, the history of urban architecture, and how the Peranakans have forever changed the life of modern Phuket.
What to expect
Temple of the God of Death. We will visit one of the most picturesque and important temples in Phuket, where tourists rarely visit. I will show and tell you why and how local Buddhists make offerings to the gods. Here you will also find the second largest seated Buddha on the island.
Kao Rang Mountain (Rang Hill). We will take a walk in a cozy park surrounded by the Great Banyan trees. This family of trees is sacred to Buddhists. From the observation platform, we will enjoy the view of Phuket Town. It can be seen from here as clear as the palm of your hand.
Monkey Hill. Feed wild monkeys with nuts and bananas. But before that, I will explain the 'safety techniques for interacting' with these cheeky, yet charming creatures.
Burmese Temple on Sirey Island. Yes, there is an island within an island in Phuket, connected to the main part by a small bridge. Sirey is home to many Burmese immigrants. You will learn why they migrate in large numbers to Thailand. We will also visit the temple, where you will see a large reclining Buddha.
Old Phuket. Walking through the streets of the old town, I will tell you about its formation, the architectural nuances of the Chinese-Portuguese style, and the life of the local residents. We will visit a hotel where 'The Beach' with Leonardo DiCaprio was filmed, and a Chinese temple where a Thai-Peranakan still lives, a descendant of its founders.
Panwa Cape. Visit a non-touristy 360-degree viewpoint with a beautiful view of the nearby islands, Chalong Pier, and Big Buddha.
