About this experience
You will walk through the center on a non-standard route, learn about Avignon rulers, love, and secret prophecies. You will see the most beautiful church, unusual houses on Krasilshchikov Street, museums, and parks. By the walls of the Papal Palace, you will learn about the influence of the Roman church and understand how the city became one of the most powerful in the Middle Ages.
What to expect
Get the keys to the city
In the maze of streets, we will come across secret messages left to descendants in the form of symbols. You will have to show interest as a true explorer, solving historical riddles and musical compositions. For every correct answer, you will receive 'papal florins.' These coins will help you buy the three keys that will unlock one of the city's main mysteries.
Avignon's enigmas
Our walk will take place inside the 5-kilometer rampart wall. We will visit Agrikol Square and inspect the Church of St. Marcial and its gargoyles. Krasilshchikov Street will immerse you in a fairy tale: here you will see the House of Digits, the deciphering of which is being worked on by historians, the house of the famous entomologist Fabra, and the House with Spheres, associated with the history of one invention. You will understand how the wheels installed on river channels-surge tanks were used and hear about the love of Petrarch and Laura by the walls of the chapel, where the poet met his beloved.
Avignon's center and panoramas
In Checano Palace, you will see the decor of the 14th century, and walking along Agrikol Street - the buildings that belonged to the Templars: I will tell you about the murder and the terrible prophecy associated with this order. At the Clock Tower Square, we will explore the town hall, an ancient carousel, and the beautiful opera building. And then we will pass through Rocher de Dom Park, where the city's chronicles began, and enjoy the panorama of Avignon, the Rhone Valley, and the neighboring town.
Roman Church in Provence
And, of course, we will see the magnificent Papal Palace: I will explain how it grew to such sizes. Avignon saw 7 Catholic popes - each with their own story. You will understand why the entire Catholic world moved here from the Vatican, who the antipopes are, and where three popes appeared at once - in Rome, Avignon, and Pisa.
During the tour, there will be time to visit the old Provencal Avignon market, where you will get acquainted with traditional dishes of the 'cuisine of the sun' and, if desired, taste wines of southern France and buy souvenirs.
