About this experience
Thanks to the fortification features of these walls, the great city stood for 1123 years. During the tour, we will thoroughly explore sections and fragments of the fortress construction. We will find answers to the most interesting and mysterious questions of Byzantine military architecture. And we will discuss how the Ottomans managed to conquer this impregnable citadel.
What to Expect
- You will see the ancient gates of Silivrikapı. Examine the battle mace of Janissary Idris, the moat, the triple line of defense. And climb to the tower with a magnificent view of the Sea of Marmara.
- We will walk along the majestic walls with numerous towers and enter the gates of Mevlanakapı. I will introduce you to the unusual device of the medieval gates. Then we will ascend the spiral stone staircase to the battle platform of the wall. We will reach the main gate tower and admire the panorama of Istanbul.
- We will descend to the square with elements of landscape design, executed in a historical style.
- Next, we will stroll along the defensive walls and moat to the gates of Topkapı and visit the historical museum "Panorama 1453," where we will immerse ourselves in a very realistic picture of the siege of the walls of Constantinople by Ottoman troops.
