About this experience
Embark on a journey through one of the largest medieval quarters preserved in Europe and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of ancient streets, characteristic of the era's buildings and mysterious details hidden in the corners of Stockholm. Fairy tales, urban legends, and fascinating facts from 'Gamla Stan' await you.
What to Expect
The Old Town in Stockholm, or as it is called in Swedish 'Gamla Stan', is one of the largest surviving medieval districts in Europe and the most significant historical landmark in Stockholm. The city began here in the middle of the 13th century. The medieval alleys and squares have a special magic. Strolling through them, you will dive headfirst into the atmosphere of unique and unrepeatable architectural structures, cathedrals, monuments, and sculptures that bear the memory of numerous historical events, mysteries, and puzzles, as well as astonishing stories and amazing facts, which I will share during our walk.
You will discover the history of the oldest church in the Old Town, find a part of the fortress wall and a gun tower, reach the Old Height Mark above sea level, identify where the Northern city gates were located and why they were so narrow. You will also learn where a part of the Cathedral disappeared and how its tower 'smiles,' delve into the mystery of a cannonball stuck in a house corner, and much more! For example, you will get acquainted with the mysterious stories of city portals and wells, learn the secret of the Stockholm Cat and the story of the princess saved from the Dragon, walk along the narrowest alley only 90 centimeters wide, find a real runic stone from the time of the Vikings. There is so much to see and learn in this city ;)
For the most experienced travelers, we can even take a night walk (after 9:00 pm) to immerse in the unique magic of the Old Town under the cover of darkness.
