About this experience
On my tour, you will discover the main attractions of 'the second row', historically significant and aesthetically beautiful. You will admire the city from the hills of Ulus Park, visit the Mihri Mah and Fatih mosques, immerse yourself in the vibrant neighborhoods of Karaköy and Beyoğlu, and I will show you the best photo spots, talk about the city's construction, architectural heritage, and daily life in Istanbul.
What to Expect
Three Mosques and Traces of Byzantium
The tour will start with the historical Mihri Mah Sultan Mosque, built by the great Sinan for Suleiman the Magnificent's favorite daughter. You will discover its special significance for Muslims and walk along the walls of the old city. At the beautiful but lesser-known Selim I the Resolute Mosque, you will enjoy a view of the Golden Horn. You will also get acquainted with the Ottoman heritage in the Fatih Mosque, where you will learn about Mehmed II, the conqueror of Constantinople. We will also talk about the Byzantine past at the two-tiered aqueducts.
Breathtaking Panoramas
In addition to the rich history and architecture, the tour stops are located in picturesque corners of Istanbul. Memorable views of the Bosphorus will open up in the scenic Ulus Park. We will relax in the shade of rare trees among fountains and springs, after which we will head to the coastal district of Arnavutköy. It used to be a separate city where each house had an individual name. At the end of the tour, optionally, we will climb the Galata Tower — one of Istanbul's symbols and the tallest structure of Byzantium.
Vibrant Neighborhoods and Modern Istanbul Life
In the Karaköy quarter, we will visit a cafe and a viewing platform with beautiful views of the Old City: you will enjoy the panorama of the Bosphorus and the city's main architectural landmarks (from here you can see the Topkapı Palace, Hagia Sophia, Süleymaniye Mosque, Galata Tower). Then we will visit a mosque from the late 16th century — the last work of the great Ottoman architect Sinan. During the tour, I will share notes on the daily life and habits of the locals. Additionally, I will be happy to recommend where to go on your own, where to try delicious traditional cuisine, and buy souvenirs.
After the main tour, you can take a 2-hour boat tour on the Bosphorus: see the city from a different perspective and sail to the second Bosphorus Bridge.
