About this experience
Ancient Modicia (modern Monza) remained a quiet suburb of Milan until the 6th century. On the tour, I will tell you how it turned into the residence of Italian kings with a luxurious palace and the largest park in Europe. You will learn how the great migration led to the formation of the Lombard Kingdom and what secrets and legends Monza holds today.
What to expect
- Historical center. We will start the tour on the pedestrian street of the city.
- Church of Santa Maria Maddalena. Visit the temple, modest on the outside and luxurious on the inside, which still belongs to an active Benedictine women's monastery.
- Roadside church in late Gothic style, built on the way to the royal residence in Monza
- Piazza Trento and Trieste - from the new history of Italy, but still on the same ancient city site. You will be amazed at how another era has layered on the medieval trading square.
- Arengario. Behind the modern buildings, you will see the medieval palace of power and governance.
- Cathedral. Be amazed by its decoration, examine the paintings and frescoes depicting the life of the Lombard queen. Admire Monza's main artifact - the Iron Crown. Find out what it really is and what connects it to Saint Helena.
- Merchants Street and Lion Bridge on the Lambro River
I will tell you about:
- About the history of early Christians
- Lombard Queen Theodelinda and the Iron Crown
- Legends closely related to Monza
