About this experience
The Church of Saint Maurice is one of the brightest examples of Renaissance painting. From my tour, you will learn about the characteristic features of artists of this era, get acquainted with the works of the brightest Lombard representatives of that time (Bernardino Luini, Beltrafio, Vincenzo Foppa, the teacher of Caravaggio Simone Peterzano, and others).
In addition, I will tell you the history of female monasticism in Milan. You will find out why daughters of wealthy noble families often decided to enter a monastery and what their relatives felt about it. I will tell you about the life of nuns in Italy, and at the end of the tour, you will hear a story about Milan during the time when it was the capital of the Roman Empire, exploring the archaeological area with the preserved remains of the imperial palace and the adjacent hippodrome.
If desired, the tour can be supplemented by visiting the archaeological museum located right in the churchyard. Here are historical evidences of Milan's earliest development period: from a Celtic settlement to the capital of the Roman Empire, as well as the early Middle Ages with the arrival of Germanic tribes in Milan.
