About this experience
During this three-hour captivating walking tour, you will learn how Paris has evolved over time, transforming from a fishing village of a Celtic tribe into one of the most visited capitals in the world. For many travelers, Paris is associated with the picturesque city from guidebooks - 'The most beautiful, romantic, and attractive.' I will help you see the French capital in all its diversity, show you its most interesting places, and, in addition to history, talk about the issues and achievements of the modern city!
What to Expect
In the French District, on a different planet
The tour will start on the Left Bank of Paris, between the magnificent Luxembourg Garden and the majestic Pantheon. We will explore the differences between the Left and Right Banks of the city and discuss the structure of the modern city. Of course, we will not overlook the Pantheon and the hill of Sainte Genevieve. Next, we will descend to the famous Sorbonne University, which has been attracting the brightest minds from all over the world for over 800 years. After that, we will continue exploring the Left Bank of the city, visiting medieval buildings and Roman baths, unraveling the origins of the Latin Quarter and what makes it so famous.
Île de la Cité and Notre-Dame Cathedral
The tour will start at the Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral. I will tell you about its charm and why it is considered iconic in the history of architecture. You will definitely go inside the cathedral and admire its interior. Then we will venture to explore the Île de la Cité, where the old royal palace Conciergerie still stands, later turned into a prison and Hall of Justice. You will hear interesting but not always pleasant stories about prisoners and executioners. From the Conciergerie, we will walk to the oldest bridge in the city, ironically named the New Bridge. I will explain why Parisians love it and why Peter the Great came to see it. You will also see the equestrian sculpture of Henry IV, the French king who stopped the bloody religious wars.
Visiting the Royalty and the City from a Bird's Eye View
The third part of our route runs along the Right Bank - the bank of secular culture and entertainment. We will reach the Arts Bridge, which leads straight to the Louvre. I will share interesting facts about the Renaissance era and religious wars and help you imagine yourself in the shoes of aristocrats showcasing elegant dresses. You will immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Paris in the second half of the 19th century on the Avenue de l'Opéra. We will discuss the city's significant transformation and the construction of the Opéra Garnier. After the walk, you can climb to the roof of one of the major old department stores, offering stunning views of the French capital.
