About this experience
For Milanese people, La Scala is more than just an opera house. It is an integral part of the local way of life. People come here not only for bel canto: ballet evenings and philharmonic concerts are also highly popular. We will talk about the glorious history of La Scala and its stars in the museum. And if you wish, we can go to an enoteca and discuss opera art over a glass of wine.
What to Expect
The Magnificent La Scala
- We will visit the museum of La Scala Theatre, the auditorium, and maybe catch a rehearsal - they do not happen every day, so I cannot guarantee attendance.
- We will talk about the Ricordi mansion, where the theatre is located, and the history of La Scala. We will recall the most iconic productions and discuss world-class stars who have performed on this stage.
- We will see paintings and scenographic sketches related to theatrical art, decorations and stage costumes, antique musical instruments, photos, and autographs of opera celebrities.
Enoteca in Brera District (optional)
- In the 19th century, after performances at La Scala, Milanese people preferred not to go straight home, but to go to bars and wine shops to extend the pleasure and talk about music and opera art over a glass of wine. We can continue this tradition: walk around the Brera district, visit one of the wine shops near the theatre, and end the walk with a tasting of Lombardy wines.
- If you are interested in this topic, I will tell you about the specifics of winemaking in Lombardy. You will learn how wine is born and which varieties Milanese people prefer.
- Since the Brera district is called the center of Milan's bohemia, I cannot fail to mention the local residents: musicians, artists, and famous footballers.
Organizational Details
- Entrance ticket to the theatre museum is paid separately - €12/person, children up to 6 years old enter for free.
- When visiting the wine shop, you pay for the wine tasting yourself: on average €7/person.
- Visiting the museum will take 1.5 hours, the walk around Brera with the wine shop - about 30 minutes.
