About this experience
In Naples, football is a true religion. And its main god is Diego Maradona! His memory lives on in the hot hearts of Neapolitans. Images of the legendary footballer can be found everywhere, and I will show you where to find them. You will see the places of pilgrimage for football fans, become part of the 'urban jungles', and admire the Italians' love for their idol.
What to Expect
Spanish Quarters
In his time, the great footballer felt at home here: they reminded him so much of his native neighborhoods in Argentina... During Maradona's lifetime, murals dedicated to the champion appeared on the houses. Many of them are scattered around different alleys - let's try to visit as many as possible! You will learn the history of these places and touch the authentic life of the local slums (bassi). Get ready to navigate secret paths, peek into windows of lower floors, and dodge ubiquitous scooters.
Historical Center
We will also visit the famous Spaccanapoli - a street that divides the city in half. Occupied by churches and monasteries, it has gained popularity among football fans. We will definitely stop by the bar with the 'altar of Maradona'. Along with photos of the 'Golden Boy', what is considered a genuine relic is preserved here: the hair of the Argentine champion, zealously guarded for over thirty years. Next to them - an ampoule with tears of fans.
