About this experience
Kerala is not only about heavenly beaches and Ayurvedic centers. Its capital, Trivandrum, will impress you with its centuries-old history, vibrant temples, royal palaces, and museums. We will show you the very best sights of the city, decipher Hindu traditions, and help you understand the colorful local life.
What to expect
- Padmanabhaswamy Temple - one of the richest temples in the world, built over 5000 years ago. We will explore it from the outside as only Hindus can enter. You will decode the features of South Indian architecture, observe pilgrims and priests.
- Attukal Temple - stroll through its ancient halls with columns, admire colorful altars and tower-pyramids with colorful statues. You will uncover what 'puja' means and why this temple is especially popular among women.
- Ganapati Temple - an ancient temple dedicated to Ganesha. This is the god with an elephant head, particularly beloved by Hindus. You will witness local religious ceremonies, break coconuts right in the temple, and learn the symbolism behind this action.
- Napier Museum - housed in a British colonial building, it preserves a large collection of historical artifacts and paintings. You will visit the gallery with works by the Rerichs, as well as see statues of gods, elements of shadow puppetry, and royal household items.
- Travancore Palace of the rulers - explore its halls where furniture, paintings, and photographs of the royal family of Travancore are kept. We will tell you about the tragic events that took place here.
